Faux silk technique

Ok as promised here is the second card from my technique class on Friday, the ladies made this cute little card using the fabulous technique - faux silk. Read below if you would like to know how to create this card.

How To:

my base card is early espresso, the next layer is whisper white run through the big shot, before I put it into the tulip embossing folder I ran the base of the folder over with crumb cake ink, popped the whisper white cardstock in then zipped it through the BS.

I snailed that layer onto the card then started with the main image - the faux silk.

Cut a piece of cardstock in neutrals (I have chosen white) for your main image. Set this aside.
I took a piece of white tissue paper and trimmed it just a little larger than my main whisper white square.
Stamp onto your tissue paper with your stamp set of choice, I have used enfrancais background stamp, then the bird and birdcage from aviary stamp set, then in old olive have stamped the tree from lovely as a tree and made it into branches with which the aviary hangs. be careful as the ink can bleed.
Once you have stamped it and it is dry, carefully scrunch the tissue paper up.
Uncrumple your tissue paper and smooth out carefully.
Next take your anywhere glue stick (from stampin up) and glue all over the whisper white cardstock you had set aside in step 1.
carefully place your tissue paper image on top of the glue and smooth out leaving some wrinkles (for the silk effect)
Trim off the excess tissue paper and you are done.

Embellish as you wish. I have layered my main image onto the scallop square from the die scallop square duo by stampin' up!.

Yep every year I make a card to give my son on valentines day just to remind him (in a way he can also keep) just how much I love him, and this year will not be any different. Here is my entry into Friday Mashup and also my son's card:

This months technique class consisted of two techniques but for today I will just show you the first one - Faux mother Of Pearl..... come back in a couple of days and I will show you the other one. I started off with a early espresso cardstock base, then layered a piece of whisper white (which had been run through the big shot using the tulips embossing folder that had been inked up in crumb cake ink). I then layered a piece of early espresso that had been punched on both sides using the scallop border punch. the main image is the special part. I started with a piece of whisper white cardstock, took some glad wrap and scrunched it up and then dipped that into a FEW drops of frost white shimmer paint. Then dabbed it over the cardstock and let dry(only takes a few minutes). Next i sponged crumb cake over the top, then stamped the leaves over the top. Added some striped ribbon, twine and a sentiment and we are done!

A everday enchantment pizza box!

Don't you just love these cute little pizza boxes? the dsp is the Free pack for saleabration, as is the cute little brad. The postage stamp stamp is also one of the stamps from fresh vintage another free product you can earn. Don't you love that stamp punched out with our new postage stamp punch, I love it. I added a little handcrafted sentiment to the flower to finish it off. I love how the paper looks vintage with the aging around the edges.

Their are 4 mini 3x3 cards as below, I have stamped some sentiments and left them off the cards so that the recipients can add them when the need arises, there are also 4 mini hand stamped envelopes with the same postage stamp image stamped on the top corner - too cute.

Pizza night

I don't know if you remember but i had something going last year with my son called Pick a Memory, and basically there were a heap of tags in a bowl and each week he got to pick one out and we would do that thing together as a family. This particular time was to order pizza and eat it UNDER the dinner table. Something a little fun and something he would remember, anyway I have scrapped that particular event and have used bits and pieces from my stash to create it:

I am back with another sneak peak today of the gorgeous papers and a brad from the sale a bration catalogue that goes live on the 25th January. I have run the page along the lines of the photos, ie the rock line is represented by the torn paper across the top, and the clear embossed stamping above the torn paper represents the trees behind the rocks.

Hmmm too deep for this time of day I think lol.

The top scallop is made with the tasteful trim die, and each little flower I have hand cut from the same DSP pack! Too cute.

dazzling details on the trim of Santa's hat and on the key he is holding, and the fancy W has been re stamped, then cut out and mounted on dimensionals on top of the original stamped part.

don't you love how santa is pointing to the sentiment, just too cute :)

the edges of the designer paper have been inked in early espresso using my stampin sponge, just to age it a little :) the background of my main focal image has been inked in crumb cake.

I first set eyes on this gorgeous vintage stamp set over a year ago, and its been on my wish list ever since (its not a stampin' Up! set). Anyway, one of the reasons I wanted it (aside from the fact that I am a white wine drinker lol), is that I wanted to make these bottle tags for the ones I give as gifts. They have come up so well I have decided to make some to sell at the upcoming markets - I love them xx

I love these pictures of Harry (not that you can see them but he is wearing sunglasses and its too cute for words) so wanted to bring out the well worn DSP for this layout, its masculine without being yukky! I find it quite appropriate even for his age (5) the worn edges of the paper is just too cool!

The chipboard pieces (the number 4, and the large decorative journal piece) had been covered in designer paper with tombow, then trimmed and sanded.

Spiderman layout

Yay, more scrapbooking, and this time I am here to show you a double layout of harrys birthday from last year (don't mind all the blue smiley faces that cover all the little people lol). I used Pacific point cardstock, then the papers from the spiderman scrapbooking kit that I had purchased BSU (before stampin' up!). As I used the same sort of stuff on his invitation and birthday card I wanted to keep the theme flowing.

Here is the double layout: Hmm do you reckon I can get away with calling this two layouts? I think I can lol

I have followed albeit loosely the sketch this month over at STUCK! go on over and check it out.

journalling has been done on a top note die. The photo borders were from the scrapbook kit as was the spiderman diecut on the rosette. Man it has been so hard to find anything with spiderman on it at the moment, so had to go digging a loooong way into my stash to find this kit lol.

A banner sits across the bottom to add a little element and dimension.

The rosette, with a crumpled paper daisy on top, the spiderman diecut has been raised on dimensionals to sit on top.

It may be a little hard to see but I have run the large journalling through the spider web embossing folder the same as his invites etc.

A learning curve...

I had two customers (little ones) that received big shot machines for christmas this year (a very generous santa if I do say so myself), and both at the tender age of 11! Anyway I promised them both a beginners class using the big shot and that they would make a card with it for FREE! Here is the card they made and rocked too I reckon, they got the hang of that and stamping straight away.

I had them use an embossing folder, vintage wallpaper as that was the folders they both got with their machines, and also the top note die, which one of them received for christmas also. here is the card they made:

I had them stamp and restamp then layer the sentiment to give it dimension.

I then had them make this super easy box, I loved that they bought their own machines with them, so we had 3 big shots running at once at times :).

A first ever motorbike ride...

There are many firsts I have of Harry just in the past two months, so the scrapbooking challenge over at Just Add Ink was a perfect title to start these pages off, so todays page I have to show you is about Harrys first motorbike ride in november last year, he loved it, though my cousin made sure he went super slow as firstly it was his first time, and secondly yep there was no helmet, but all the same, Harry loved his little trip around the property in Noosa. We visited my grandparents there.

One other thing I am going to try and do this year is use up my stash of goodies no matter what brand they are, so you will be seeing some different stuff hopefully this year from me.

the background is crumb cake base, then a beautiful green colour layered on the top, it doesn't look too green in this photo but it is quite a muted mint type colour, those who are familiar with the my minds eye papers will know the green of this paper - I adore it. Then there is a tiny piece of printed paper behind the tear, just enough to break up the plainness a little. Added a little staple too for some added interest.

I had this cute embellishment in my stash, so I cut off the edges of one end, added a 1/2" circle punchie, then punched a whole through that punchie with my cropadile to turn it into a tag, added some twine, put a slit each side of the arrow so that the photo slid behind it, and its a super cute masculine tag. I stamped the motorcycle stamp onto some crumb cake cardstock cut it out and tucked it above the tag for an extra embellishment.

Deets: stamps, twine, punches and title using the big shot machine are Stampin' Up!, Papers and embellishments are my minds eye.

Its mojo Monday challenge again, wow two weeks in a row, I am on a roll lol, anyway I thought I would ink up a newly acquired stamp set tonight (or should I say morning, its 2.45 am here lol). Its a cutie so here is my entry for the challenge this week, and the sketch we had to use:

I ordered this stamp set not too long ago so I thought I should ink it up, hmmm easier said than done, I found it a lot harder to use than I thought lol, but I ploughed through it and came up with a card that i could enter into the freshly made sketch challenge for this week. Here is the sketch:

I wanted to leave the flowers unglued so that they were more dimensional.

Close up detail of the detail in the veil. Love sparkly!

Just a tip: I couldn't get a solid image at first of the bride and groom so lightly (and I mean lightly) run your sanding block evenly over the rubber. This helps to "grab" the ink a little better on any solid image stamp like this one.

Merry Monday

I love christmas but for the first time ever it crept up on me last year and I was most definitely unprepared for it, so this year I was happy to discover Merry Monday - a challenge site for christmas cards only, that is to create a christmas card each week until christmas - I won't be caught this year lol, and the best thing about it is that I can put my heart and soul into each individual card as its only one card per week - yay!!! Now if you follow my blog you would know I am a great one for scene settings and I frequently use lovely as a tree with the cute little deer from my most fave stamp set of all time winter post, so again I never tire of it, but I have this stamp in my stash that I wanted to ink up and that is the christmas tree, I have added little baubles to the tree to make it the main focus of the card, I just love it to bits. The twine is in keeping with the outdoorsy type scene I have set. I was going to add dazzling diamonds to the bottom of the deer but have run out.... oh well such is life :)

am loving this paper, did I tell you that, anyway have used it for another card challenge entry this week but this time for Card Patterns I have all but exhausted the pink side of things, you will see those in upcoming scheduled posts, but today I wanted to explore the parfait side of things, its not a colour I use a lot of, but was pretty happy with how it turned out. Here is the sketch we had to work with:

I had a lot of trouble photographing this card, while it is quite warm where we are due to the storm it is really overcast, so I ended up laying it down to photograph it.

a close up of the fussy cutting I did, the blue accents are actually part of the print of the designer paper, so I thought I would cut around all the "bits" to make them into accents for the card. Love fussy cutting, but do have to be in the mood lol.

It has been a very productive weekend, craft wise, I have created enough to keep my blog going for the next month and a half woo hoo, I am usually a month in advance with my scheduled posts, as my weekdays are super busy with work and I NEVER usually get time to hop into my craft room until the weekends lol. A mojo challenge and a sneak peak...

Man i don;t think I have done one of these challenges since this time last year, where does the time go? I think I have just got in with enough time to spare for this weeks mojo challenge which is a sketch challenge. Here is the sketch we had to use:

Yep you have spied some new things, but for now this is my challenge entry:

The banner part has a layer of vellum over the top of it to tone down the floral underneath just a touch.

I have hand stamped the floral image onto the doily die, then restamped again onto vanilla cardstock and fussy cut it out, raised it up on top of the original stamped image with dimensionals. Really wanted the card to pop visually and give it dimension.

Happy birthday...on the open sea

I am starting off today's post sharing a bit about myself that not too many know about lol - I fully intended on going to uni at the naval academy and becoming a Naval Officer for the Royal Australian Navy! - THEN i met my husband and here I am today and life as I know now was NOT how I planned. I went through navel cadets as a teenager,even went back to school for an extra year (yr 13) to further increase my end of year results! Not that I am complaining, I have a lovely husband and a son that is the most precious person in the world to me, but sometimes I sit and wander what if? - anywayyyysss ...so when I saw this set come up in our catalogue I was drawn to it right away, and while I am not too much a fan of the ship image I do love every other stamp in this set. It works perfectly together with the coordinating DSP and the new twine, Love Love Love it.

A close up view of the front panel, the ships wheel is made of firstly the happy birthday stamp from Happiest Happiest birthday hostess set, and the word window punch are the wooden handles behind it. I just trimmed an arc on each side of each handle to create the fancier look of the wood handles.

If you look closely my card is quite dimensional. For the compass I have stamped onto the white background, restamped again onto scrap then punched out the circle part with my 3/4" circle punch, mounted it on dimensionals onto the base, then restamped again the compass point, cut that out and raised with dimensionals onto the circle I had already punched and added.

For the ships wheel, I punched out the sentiment firstly with my 1 3/4" circle punch, then restamped again and punched out the 1" circle punch and added that on top with a dimensional.

Weaved twine through the spiral parts of the ships "log" and tied it through the anchor and its done.

I have added this card to a challenge this week over at SUO challenges which is to get punchy!

Sweet Treat buffet

Harrys birthday was in the park this year, not far from home, and it was his first party with all of his little school friends - too cute, so I had to keep in mind that it was at the park when it came to decorating the sweets table!I also had to keep in mind that I left nearly everything to the last minute (not like me) so some things got left out, but overall, for a rush job I was pretty happy with how it turned out, next year I will be more organised. I was still creating the cupcake toppers as I was running out the door today lol.

I bought some delicious items from Little big Company in the past few weeks and put to use some of them today. I made the sweets labels, the fancy decorative bits on each are from the stamp set called "four frames".

The birthday cake that I had made:

The cupcakes I made: I also made the cupcake wrappers and embossed them with the spider web embossing folder from SU (nah). The cupcake toppers I made also with the retired stamp set party hearty, and the two current punches.

The gorgeous little individual cupcake holders I got from the Little Big Company, just love them to bits - they come in pink white and blue.

The spider biscuits were made by my mum, thanks mum xx, and the loot bags were to the right on the table.

The gorgeous little sweet sticks were also purchased at the Little big Company, loved them.

I purchased a mould of spiderman and made my own spiderman pops out of chocolate, wrapped them in a small treat bag and tied them with matching ribbon.

I also had two little glass jars with jelly beans and licorice allsorts for the kids, and a tray of macarons.

And finally the scrumptious macarons from Lil Miss Macaron, these lovelies are white choc flavoured yum! If you haven't tried her macarons you SHOULD!!!

I also purchased some little milk containers in glass from the Little Big company also with some beautiful paper straws, but as my life has been one speed these past few weeks - flat out, I just ran out of time I was going to fill them with blue lemonade.

A delicious recipe book....

Do you have a stack of cookbooks but only a few recipes you actually like from each? This was my problem then I made my own recipe book, pulled all my fave recipes from each cookbook and made my own - no more spending long hours pouring over them all looking for that one recipe that has eluded me.

Here is a version of my recipe book, but I have made it with our delicious new papers called domestic goddess, love those papers.

I have used the tab punch to create page dividers, just need to adhere the tabs to the side or the top of the section required.

A christmas Sleigh

I have something special to show you today, i hope you love it as much as I do, its a little christmas sleigh. Its so cute and perfect for a small christmas gift like jewellery, choccies, lots of little sweet things, wrapped in cellophane with a gorgeous tag, what a perfect christmas gift. There are a couple of other little things on here that I found fun to do:

The gold centres of the poinsettias have been madeby:

A. add versamark to brushed gold cardstock

B. tip heat n stick powder over the top and heat until just bubbly

C. Tip champagne glass glitter over the top and then heat set again

D. Now punch out the circles using your 1/2" circle punch.

E. I spritzed the poinsettias with water, heat set, then spritzed again with shimmer paint made into a spritz.

How I made the paper pine cones:

A. Punch out 20 or so chocolate chip circles ( I used 1/2" circle but would be better a fraction smaller)

B. score in half, then using the back of your piercer (or something smaller) make a cup of each circle.

C. Using a bit of craft wire or the like, pop some glue onto your first circle and wrap it around the top of the wire, then do the same with the rest of the circles in a spiral pattern (to make the tips of the cones odd layered).Layer down the wire until you are happy with the size of your cone. I made about 5 layers down to create mine.

D. You can keep it on the wire, but i slid my "cone" off, then glued to my project.

I used a die for the inside of a pop up card called sleigh 3D by sizzix, then created a little box for the centre of the two die cuts, measures 10 cm x 7cm scored at 1.5cm all around (really easy). There are aheap of sleigh templates floating around on the internet though, I could have easily used one of them.

This was a thank you gift and card for a scrapbooking class I did a few weeks ago, we had 9 lovely ladies doing double layouts, and I thought they all deserved a sweet treat after that lol, so they received this little card and also the petite pocket which held a freddo frog inside, the pocket was decorated with our new big top birthday designer series paper and a stamp from under the big top, was watercoloured and then popped onto a dimensional and that held it closed. Pretty cute I think.

A big Welcome.....

I thought I would send my new recruits (they should have them by now so I can post lol) a welcome card to say hello and to welcome them to my basic INKstinct team, and what better stamp set to use then the fabulous set called "Under the big top" I must say its becoming one of my fave sets at the moment (well non vintage sets lol). Here it is:

I rolled the stem of the windmill by using a piece of cardstock, rolling it until it became a cylinder, then glued it together then glued to card, hopefully it stayed round once it went through the post lol. I also added one of our new glitter brads to the centre of it. Love those.

Here is a post it note pad, In rich razzleberry and white and using the snow swirled stamp set its a little cutie.

I think the outside was a pretty good match for the inside, I actually bought the note pad printed as it is, and thought snow swirled stamp set was a perfect choice for the outside decoration. What do you think?

A lego man Card

The front of the box (Die box#2) has a window cut out using the curly label punch, then has an acetate window to cover it. Added the baby booties, baby sign with a bashful blue brad, shredded and crimped some whisper white cardstock for the inside, and you have it

Ok, not only is there a fantastic joining special with Stampin' Up! at the moment, but there is also something coming up next month. I can't give any details away on that at this point but it does involve a new product or two that isn't in the new idea book and catalogue, so I will give you a sneak peak over the coming days, by way of a card or project using it, then *happy sigh* you will just have to wait until 1st October for the exciting news.

AND... what about the stocking trim?

I pulled apart the cotton wool ball, rubbed it between two hands to make it stick together better, flattened it out, and then stuck it onto the trim of the stockings, which had sticky strip attached to it. Cute huh?

My New Stamp Studio

I have finally settled into my new stamp studio, and I love it to bits. I am just waiting on a new table top that covers our existing pool table and I will be finished.

The table seats 10 comfortably.The stools are especially made for pool tables.

The buffet in the back right houses all my business items, catalogues, bags, envelopes, and all embossing, and the tubs for the table which contain all the tools needed for each class.

fantastic lighting, it makes all the difference.

As you walk in the double doors to the left is my new furniture that holds all my stampin' up! goodies.

This first cabinet holds my embellishments, paints, markers, glitters, ribbons,

The cabinet in the corner holds my punches, ink caddy, cutters, spare papers etc.

The centre cabinet holds all my stamp sets, current in the top, and behind the doors are my "just can't part with" retired ones. The clear mount stamp sets are all in alphabetical order - just the way I like it lol!

The last cabinet is my die cut cabinet, the top holds all my dies, bigz, xl, originals etc.

A pride of place for my big shot machine, and in the cabinets underneath holds my embossing folders, and all things big shot ie spare plates, shims, mats etc.

My paper station, 12 x 12 racks for 12 x 12 cardstock and DSPs, in the filing cabinet holds all my A4 cardstock, labelled and in colour family order. I also keep my printer and laptop here.

The other end of the room there is a sofa(bed) and my TV.
