I am starting off today's post sharing a bit about myself that not too many know about lol - I fully intended on going to uni at the naval academy and becoming a Naval Officer for the Royal Australian Navy! - THEN i met my husband and here I am today and life as I know now was NOT how I planned. I went through navel cadets as a teenager, even went back to school for an extra year (yr 13) to further increase my end of year results! Not that I am complaining, I have a lovely husband and a son that is the most precious person in the world to me, but sometimes I sit and wander what if? - anywayyyysss ...so when I saw this set come up in our catalogue I was drawn to it right away, and while I am not too much a fan of the ship image I do love every other stamp in this set. It works perfectly together with the coordinating DSP and the new twine, Love Love Love it.
A close up view of the front panel, the ships wheel is made of firstly the happy birthday stamp from Happiest Happiest birthday hostess set, and the word window punch are the wooden handles behind it. I just trimmed an arc on each side of each handle to create the fancier look of the wood handles.
If you look closely my card is quite dimensional. For the compass I have stamped onto the white background, restamped again onto scrap then punched out the circle part with my 3/4" circle punch, mounted it on dimensionals onto the base, then restamped again the compass point, cut that out and raised with dimensionals onto the circle I had already punched and added.
For the ships wheel, I punched out the sentiment firstly with my 1 3/4" circle punch, then restamped again and punched out the 1" circle punch and added that on top with a dimensional.
Weaved twine through the spiral parts of the ships "log" and tied it through the anchor and its done.
I have added this card to a challenge this week over at SUO challenges which is to get punchy!

Hi Melissa. Happy New Year! Love how you put the twine between the punched spirals - great card.
ReplyDeleteHey Melissa, that's so funny! Perhaps if you'd done that, we would have met earlier! I joined the navy at 18 (albeit in NZ), and went to uni, and am now (22 years later) a Navigation officer. I've worked a lot with the RAN. I go back to work full-time in 3 1/2 weeks, as my husband will have a year at home with the kids. So your card appeals to me too - a lot! Love it (and thanks for sharing your 'secret'!)
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa, I've just ordered the Open Sea set and now I can't wait to play with it. Just love your work, so inspirational.
ReplyDeleteWow Miss Mel. FANTABULOUS card. I am still tossing and turning (giving somewhat a feeling of seasickness) over this set. I do however think this card is spectacular. Love the fancy wheel. Thanks for sharing the wee snippet of ur past with us too....cld have had that offer and a Gentleman moment somewhere along the line........ Happy New Year Kiddo. ooxx MWAH
ReplyDeleteMelissa, this is an absolutely stunning card! I love this, especially since my father is retired Navy. Thanks so much for joining us this week at SUO Challenges, and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI already miss this paper! Love your little ship's wheel! Thanks for joining us at SUO Challenges.
ReplyDeleteThis is just fantastic!! I love all the dimension in this card! So glad you joined us at SUO Challenges this week!
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteLove this gorgeous card. Such a lovely combination of elements, and very elegant looking.
Thanks also for sharing your bit of history with us. It made me feel like googling 'paths taken', where this Chinese Proverb came up (amongst a gazillion other things)...“There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same”.
I thought that was kinda cool.
All the best!
